Lighthouses

Milwaukee's shores have been welcoming ships for over 150 years. Helping to guide them into port are the lighthouses along the coast of the cream city. Find all three next time you visit!

One Lighthouse At A Time

North Point Lighthouse

The Northpoint Lighthouse & Museum

The Northpoint Lighthouse is the first of three lighthouses that live in the City of Milwaukee. Located on the east side, this lighthouse functions more as a museum than a lighthouse now-a-days. Having moved inland and up the hill, you can now take a tour and walk up the steps of the 100 year old structure to take in the breathtaking view at the top.

Milwaukee Pierhead Light

The Pierhead Lighthouse

The Pierhead Lighthouse is the only active lighthouse in Milwaukee County (being operated as a lighthouse). Located within Lakeshore State Park, this giant red structure is picturesque standing in the foreground of Lake Michigan's mighty blue backdrop. Though the lighthouse is closed to the public, it is the perfect instagram backdrop to highlight your visit to Milwaukee!

Breakwater Lighthouse

Milwaukee's Breakwater Lighthouse

The Breakwater Lighthouse located just off the shore of Lake Michigan looms large on the breakwaters of the Port of Milwaukee. This building was put on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011 and was sold off to a private company in 2013 after the United States Coast Guard decided to no longer use it as an active lighthouse. Currently, the lighthouse is not accessible to the public, but is raising funds to be able to one day make that possible.
