Wauwatosa Public Art Guide

Wauwatosa’s combination of galleries and public art makes it a perfect destination for serious and casual art aficionados alike. And when your eyes need a break from browsing, you’ll find plenty of spots to kick back, relax and refresh.  
 

Tosa’s commitment to art is exemplified by the commissioning of seven murals throughout East Tosa in 2019. You’ll find the results on Tosa staples like Cranky Al’s, a local favorite for coffee and donuts, and BelAir Cantina, which specializes in Mexican fusion cuisine.  
 

Not all works of art are the hands-off type. Some are meant to be admired, desired and devoured. Ultimate Confections’ hand-dipped chocolate selection includes truffles that are as tempting as they are beautiful. Tabal Chocolate showcases single-origin chocolates from many countries and hosts chocolate-centric classes, but don’t leave without salivating over their hot chocolate bombs. And at Delicious Bites, you’ll find light lunch options alongside gorgeous creations like decorated strawberries dipped in chocolate, creative cupcakes and yummy cheesecake jars.  
 

For wearable art, stop by Magpie Jewelry & Metals Studio, which displays the works of dozens of jewelers, metalsmiths, sculptors and painters. Or, if you’re in the mood to create some of your own art, check out Arté Bar & Painting Lounge. You can sign up for a class or just sit down at one of their open canvas tables while enjoying your favorite drink from their full-service bar. And if you appreciate the performing arts, you’ll want tickets to the latest production at Bombshell Theatre Co. The nonprofit organization focuses on “extravagant theatrical storytelling” with local talent and it stages performances year-round.  
 

Families with children can spark the imagination at Ruckus & Glee, which is packed full of fun and educational toys and also hosts storytelling events. And you won’t want to miss Hart Park, with its playgrounds, splash pad, concert stage, nature trails and skate park.  
 

Lastly, make sure you spend time in the Tosa Village, which might be considered something of a work of art in its own right. It’s a modern take on the quintessential American downtown and home to classic dining spots like Ristorante Bartolotta dal 1993, Café Hollander, Leff's Lucky Town and Bucktabon Tavern & Supper Club. When you’re done with your meal, walk off some calories meandering through the village streets or alongside the picturesque Menomonee River. 

Wauwatosa’s annual ART 64 combines creativity and competition into an artistic showcase that plays out in front of a live audience. The free event is open to the public and sponsored by Discover Wauwatosa. It brings 64 artists to downtown Tosa for a head-to-head, bracket-style tournament June 9 and 10. Each round, artists have one hour to create art based on a predetermined theme, with voters deciding who’ll survive and advance. Winners receive a cash prize each round, and the overall winner will earn $20,000.
