VISIT Milwaukee Announces Steve Baas as Incoming Chairman of the Board for 2021
MILWAUKEE (June 8, 2020) – VISIT Milwaukee announced today that Steve Baas will succeed Omar Shaikh as Chairman of the Board of Directors beginning January 1, 2021. Baas, who has served on VISIT Milwaukee’s Board of Directors since 2018, works as the senior vice president of government affairs at the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce (MMAC).
“We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Steve as Chairman of the Board to help steer VISIT Milwaukee into this new decade,” said VISIT Milwaukee President & CEO Peggy Williams-Smith.
Baas currently serves as Vice Chair of the Board and will continue in that role until Shaikh’s term expires on December 31, 2020.
As the image and tourism marketing organization for the Greater Milwaukee area, VISIT Milwaukee is responsible for growing the local tourism economy, generating revenues for local business, increasing taxes paid by tourists and growing tourism-related jobs.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors volunteers his time to provide overall strategic direction to VISIT Milwaukee and advocate its mission to the community. The Board of Directors assists in developing the company’s strategic plan, and helps the organization achieve its goals through participation in committees and Board meetings.
